Hello everyone,
I am here to share my ownership experience of my 2023 Alpha BB AT Jimny.
My name is Sushil Bodh, owning a 4wd car was always a dream.
Grew up by seeing gypsies all around performing like a beast, still i couldn’t afford to get one as it was impractical vehicle.
So the wait for Jimny began.
Waited a long for the Jimny. followed all the leaks and updates.
Finally on 12 Jan Maruti decided to launch the vehicle at Auto-expo 2023.
Booked BB Alpha AT from Nexa Mandi the very same day at around 1pm by paying 25k. the whole process was done telephonically.
Got confirmation from dealer for getting delivery by 12 June.
(ps: till now i had not seen the vehicle physically at auto expo or any Nexa outlet. Forget about test drive.)
went for the delivery and brought home the car on 12 June.
Basically I am from Lahaul. Settled in kullu and currently working in Bilaspur in psu bank. Being a psu employee
,I might be transferred to any part of India. The plan is to explore new places with my Jimny and have good memories till retirement.
The stock tyres are good but didn’t give much confidence in highway and while changing lanes. Even I wanted tyres which would perform good in winters during snow drives.
Went ahead with Yokohama geolander g015 215 75 R15 LT.
A closer look. Clearance is good.
Tyres changed with wheel balancing only. No changes to alignment.
Post feedback
Car feels much more planted and grounded.
Cabin noise is reduced significantly. I could make a difference that engine noise is more audible now.
A small gift by the dealer. Don’t know if I will use it or not.
Tyres changed at
Batra auto center sector 32 Chandigarh.
Cost per tyre ₹8000
Stock tyre exchange value ₹4000
Changed all 5 tyres. Which costed ₹20000. Additional discount ₹1000 for making payment in cash.
Total bill ₹19000
Advisory: If anyone is thinking of upgrading the tyres. Please do it ASAP. as per the dealer almost 90% people are upgrading their tyres. And within few months the market will be flooded with Jimny’s stock tyre, which are not even compatible with any vehicle. And there are chances that the buy back value will reduce to ₹ 1500-2000 in near future.
Awesome upgrade. Is this LT spec or passenger tyre? It looks confusing to me atleast; Is the tyre very heavy? Please let me know. What is the tyre pressure you are using?
It’s LT. Didn’t weight it. But it’s much better than stock tyres. Feels more connected to road. These are performing good in highway and off-road. Earlier tyre pressure was set at 35. Now deflated it to 26 as per forum members guidance. Still doing good.
Thanks for quick response. Just checked with the tyre dealer; there are two versions with GO15 - 215/75 R15. Seems the passenger one is light (100S). Attaching pictures for reference. Confused on which one to pick up though.
Any hit in terms of performance with LT version? Appreciate your response.
LT comes with aggressive treads and has white lettering. The only drawback is that big treads leads to stones getting struck in them. Rest is all fine. If you thinking of getting yokos ,get the LT one only.
Hi All, Quick introduction: I am from Bangalore, desperately waiting for delivery. Should happen in next couple of weeks. Thoroughly confused about the tire upgrade. Stock Vs 215 Geolander. Need help with the impact of upgrade to 215 Geo’s with respect to Mileage, Pickup & Highway ride comfort. I know that it will excel in offroad, broken road scenarions…
Welcome to the forum and a very pertinent question on which we have had many long debates.
In short you can either go with 215/75 R15 or 225/70 R15.
The latter is available only in Apollo Apterra AT2 range and is a fantastic tyre which does not alter the overall diameter of the tyre thereby avoiding any gear shift point changes in AT transmission and neither does it effect the speedometer reading. Best is that since it is same diameter and only a little broad it does not rub with the body of the car under any circumstances.
215/75 on the other hand will reduce the pick up just a tad while improving fuel efficiency but it also rubs against some body parts under severe suspension articulation.
I don’t know if you are member of our Telegram Group or not but there are lot of discussions and pictures of both these tyres on the Telegram group. Let me know if you want to join the telegram group also and I will add you there.
I know, tires is one the biggest discussion point on all automotive forums. Thank you for the patiently & concisely replying.
Please do add me to the group. I will DM you.
