First Week and 1000 kms with Nexa Blue SKYIN

Hello honourable group members.

I had booked grey alpha AT. After the unveil i changed my preference to white. I was confused about buying one post price reveal. Reading all messages from learned members my confusion vanished for good. Your knowledge about automobiles and depth of discussions is phenomenal.

I got a call last sunday to check vehicle at Jagmohan Motors , Rohtak. Nexa blue and kinetic yellow was available for delivery.i did not want to wait for white colour so I took nexa blue last monday without test drive as i had fair idea about the vehicle from the discussions of you all especially manik sir and anuj purohit sir. Nexa blue colour is like a chameleon; changes colour shade with varying intensity of light and the colour grew on me in just couple of days.i think Every colour which is being offered is good and will grow on the owner in less then a week.

Got very little time with jimny till yesterday. Today i drove it for 10 hrs; 70% highway and 30% offroad including sand dunes, boulders.

Took it to a sand dune at approx 40 degree incline. It summited the dune so smoothly which was surprising to me on stock tires with 26psi. Have seen my other cars with mightier engines stress out.

Tires are sufficient for everything except for extreme off-roading motorsport or improving aesthetics of vehicle.

Cant comment on performance post tyre change and learned people like you guys can educate me about the same.

It is nimble and agile off the road but a bit lazy over highways just in high speed overtakes. steering is fickle minded Needs constant inputs otherwise the vehicle will wander out of line a bit.

There is absolutely no problem in cruising on highway. At 70kmph cruise it returned me the mileage of approx 17km per litre and it reduced 1.5 to 2 km/ litres with every 10 kmph addition to speed.

Sometimes hairpin bends can make your arms workout a bit but one easily gets adapted in just 4-5 hairpin bends.

Body roll on winding roads is well controlled for such a cheap BOF vehicle.

My wife suffers from motion sickness and we are avid travellers. Have tried every medication but nothing worked for her. The only thing she does is sit on front seat and fixates her vision to road in front and avoids lateral or vertical movement of her head.

My 4yr old kid and wife who is 5’7” were seated in backseat; was comfortable in the ride and my kid had a comfortable nap of 2-3 hrs.

Surprisingly the only cars in tucson (2017), alturas(2019) , fortuner(2009 & 2019), seltos, duster awd, endeavour (2020) we own; only jimny was the one that managed her motion sickness episode effectively. Probably due to smooth ride and better outside visibility

Have driven my jimny 1000 kms and rightly christened it SKYIN- Ladakhi name of mountain goat IBEX.

Sending my car for 1st service tomorrow morning and taking it to Miyar Valley in Pangi region tomorrow night.

I intend to keep my Skyin stock as all my other cars. this car has mated all my requirements of daily drive and the ride for beaten tracks in its stock form.

IMHO this car is a nice mixture of hatchback and big suv ;can be for everyone as it handles like a hatchback, runs over potholes minimising their transmission to people sitting in the car. Never been an owner of a sedan so cant say for sedan lovers.

Doctors are known for their worst handwriting and maybe writing skills as well.

This is my first post on the group so Kindly pardon in any errors.

Thanks for a beautifully narrated review of your Jimny. What a surprise I got after reading your review. Super accurate and wonderfully written capturing all the small details of the Jimny. Dr sahib you are a chupa rustam. You took delivery and even drove the car 1000 kilometres and no one in our group knew. :joy::joy:

The finicky steering you felt can be fixed when you upsize your tyres to a slightly broader set. Perhaps when it’s time to change the tyres you could consider a wider size. A little part of the feeling is also because of the recirculating ball steering type that has some amount of play inherent in its design.

I wish you all the best always and have a safe trip to Pangi valley tomorrow

Sir i am layman about the technology involved. I m okay with steering as i take it as attention seeking behaviour of your true partner. I want to enjoy this vehicle as it is delivered. I will definitely bug you with the technicalities when i plan to modify the vehicle.

Most welcome sir, call me anytime. Will be glad to be of help.

Awesome!! Beautifully written review.

My mom also suffers from motion sickness. You just sealed the deal for me even more. I just can’t thank you enough for that point which no one ever brought up.

Like you said, the group literally kept me from jumping ship despite the price reveal. Now your review is another feather to the same hat.

I dream we can travel together sometime.

Its a wonderful machine. One will never regret buying this one. Jimny will surely outlive us given we take proper care of it.

Hi there! Thanks for penning down the beautiful review. I did feel the steering “auto swaying and needing constant correction” with the stock tyres on my first highway drive and it went away by a huge margin as soon as I upgraded to 215/75 R15.
If you are near Manesar sometime, we can catchup together!

Thank you for your review! I have motion sickness as well. I take a tablet called Diligan 25 and so far it’s worked well on all my trips.

Looking forward to your ownership experiences and happy trails ahead!
