I wanted to see if I could convert the rear seats of my car into a 6 feet bed by removing the backrest. It turned out to be a quick and simple process that only required a 14-number wrench and a screwdriver.
To start, I folded the seat forward, revealing a bolt on the lower right corner of the left seat and a plastic cover on the lower left corner with a rectangular hole. By pressing down on the screwdriver through the hole and angling it towards the back of the car, I could lift the plastic cover (which took a bit of experimenting the first time, but subsequent attempts only took about 10 seconds).
Once the cover was off, I opened the bolt and gently removed the backrest. This modification can be easily done even at a campsite. It’s important to note that the bed area may not be completely flat, but with some clever packing of bags and items, you can make it flatter and more comfortable for sleeping. Finding the right mattress for the space is essential to ensure a comfortable night’s rest.
If you need visual guidance, images and videos would be helpful to walk you through the process and demonstrate the final setup.
Wonderful. Didn’t know it was so simple and easy to remove the back side of the rear seat. This can not only serve as a bed but also quick way to increase luggage area.
Thanks for making this DIY and the videos were excellent way to explain how it’s done.
Awesome!!!
This helped me the past two days. Took off the seats and stored a lot of stuff from ladders to painting and renovation materials for my dads business. Jimny is truly a versatile vehicle. I’m so satisfied I have her. My baby. My darling. My Aditi.
BTW folks I used a flat head and was unsuccessful in removing the plastic cover. Attaching images here. It’s a clip so use a flat thin screwdriver like a tester or something.
Any idea how to remove the rear seat base. There may be some way to disable the rear seat belt chime if we are able to see what’s underneath the rear seat base. Probably there is a simple coupler attached to the rear seat belt anchor points that could be manipulated.
My reply may be a bit too late. You may have found the solution to disable the rear seat belt chime by disconnecting the coupler below the seat. However, I found a link that explains how to do it. Maybe useful to other CurbOver members.
I am not sure whether I can post the link of another forum on CurbOver. (Moderator may please let me know).
You can read it on Team-BHP forum, thread “Maruti Jimny Review”. Post No. 1814.
The Post mentions that doing so will not interfere with the airbag deployment.
Not sure if this is a better way of just using dummy seat belt clips is better.
