Jerky Feel while changing between D to R in AT

I have recently taken delivery of my Jimny Alpha AT and started noticing a jerky feel when toggling between D to R with mild mechanical noise(while the vehicle is in halt) I own Skoda Rapid 2018 DCT as well but never experienced this behaviour.

Can anyone help me understand if its due to some malfunctioning or by default it’s expected. Any guidance will be appreciated. Thanks.

Note: My Jimny is brand new and only driven 120KmS

Hi Hari,

What you are experiencing is completely normal for the Torque convertor based automatic transmission of the Jimny. Please don’t worry about it. It may be slightly pronounced at the first start in the day and then gets a bit better.

The noise is from differential & it is because of backlash. Some noise is acceptable in 4wd vehicle.

Backlash in a differential is the gap between the teeth of two meshing gears, usually between the crown wheel (ring gear) and the drive pinion. It’s similar to valve clearances and is necessary to allow for smooth operation.

Search for differential backlash to understand more about it.

I have often felt the jerky behavior when I speed up from 50km to 60km speed. Mine is 1 year old Automatic Jimny. Told the service team during 2nd & 3rd service, but as per them the vehicle is fine no problem with it.

If you leave the accelerator and then press then the jerk will be felt. If you just press the accelerator without lifting your foot off then it should not jerk.
