Hello all,
Auto Dimming IRVMs are getting almost standard in the higher variants of most cars today. However the jimny does miss out on it, and after being used to one, it is quiet annoying going back to the manual mirrors.
When I searched through forums and videos, quiet a few people have retrofitted it to other cars. So I searched for the part number of the Auto dimming IRVM that comes with other Suzuki cars, and here is the Boodmo link:
Boodmo Link for Suzuki Auto Dimming IRVM
This is the part that is used on higher variants on the Baleno, Brezza, Ciaz, Grand Vitara, … This mirror has the light sensors that trigger the dimming, built into it. So it requires a 12V power supply only, a positve and ground. So wiring should not be an issue, and it could be taken from the fuse box using a tap too.
However the actual problem is the mounting. While almost all cars have the IRVM glued onto the windshield, the Jimny has it hanging from the roof. So fitting this auto dimming mirror on that bracket does not seem to be an option.
So I was thinking about removing the original mirror, and mounting (using adhesive) the auto dimming mirror on the windshield similar to other cars. But again the Jimny’s windshield is quiet steep, so have to check whether the mirror can be tilted enough to a usable position.
So I would like to know if someone else has thought about or done this mod?
Also do share your opinions on this approach.
