Being a middle aged practicing physician is a time consuming affair in india. Your day starts early at 8am or 6am if you exercise. I keep on switching between two. The day end arounds 9 or 10pm if there are no emergencies to cater to at night. Looking at phase and pace of life we decided to pursue our long forgotten passion of travelling to remote places. After researching well with many human hours and years we bought a jimny on 12th june 2023.
As we intended to keep it for as long as we could we wanted to keep the jimny in good condition. .We went to detailing devils rohtak branch for paint protection. They explained us the packages of various types and we decided for dragon PPF with 5 year warranty.
We left the car with them on 18th june. They delivered the car after installing ppf after 2 days.
All doors & bonnet had vertical and horizontal straight scratches over the car. We thought it is the issue with the ppf. We went to Detailing Devils Rohtak for the issue. They told us that it is issue with ppf and will be resolved. They kept car for a couple of days applied a new layer of ppf to edges of doors to just align the edge with the vertical scratch to conceal and told us that the repairs have been done. On cross checking the scratches were still there. As we are short of time and we needed the car for daily commute to our work we could not send the car again to them soon. We sent the car to them on 24th july 2023 to remove ppf and apply a new one. They gave us time of three days. There was no communication from them on 3rd day and later days and no response to our calls We decided to visit their showroom on 29th july. The horror story started. The scratches were not on the ppf but they were knife scratches on the car colour itself. They had applied the film at car and cut them against the car. Knife scratches were present over the car all around. There were rubber bidding torn and missing on various plastic parts and multiple dents were present over the roof of the car. They had tried to hide the scratches by buffing the car. They hoped they will go after removing a layer of paint but was unable to do so because scratches were so deep. The plastic parts they removed for removing ppf were also had scratches all around. It was infuriating and we got angry and they tried to calm down us with returning money or more money then the billed amount. I was appalled that they were trying to compensate monetarily whereas they have ruined the modality which was an escape and passion project for us to escape our routine life and there is no regard from detailing devils in this aspect. Considering legal route now as we are totally frustrated from their response. At this point we haven’t even got the car back home as it was so disappointing to see our new car in this condition. Whatever so called repairs they may do now, its not going to be back to mint condition once it has been defiled such. Utterly horrifying experience.
I feel really sorry and at the same time angry. Sorry that you have had to endure shoddy workmanship and angry at the stupid detailers.
Applying PPF is a very delicate process and without training it can ruin the original paint. I guess some novice applied it in your case.
People nowadays have no respect for someone’s property and if something goes wrong the following chalta hai attitude is even worse.
They don’t understand nor can comprehend the pain it causes the owner.
I am really with you in this ordeal. Over the years I too have faced such issues off and on and ultimately I decided never to let anyone work on my car unless it was absolutely necessary.
I can now only say this much that please don’t let anyone work on your car unless absolutely required. The accessories guys are even more callous and careless.
My only suggestion is to move on since there is nothing that can be done to fix this now. Even a monetary compensation will only get you your money back but not the paint. Of course you should pursue and make them bloody well pay and teach them a lesson. However please take this in your stride and enjoy your Jimny for what it is. When the time comes get a coat of paint and it will become new. After all we bought Jimny to experience outdoors and in those situations worse things can happen.
I for myself held on to apply the door cladding for so many days just because I did not want these idiots to apply primer and make a mess of things. Today I finally got the car washed and then cleaned it myself again and applied the door cladding myself without the primer.
I can relate to your predicament but honestly the more you try to get it fixed the worse it will become.
Just get your money back and move on. Get a coat of paint later after some years.
Damn what a bad experience with a brand new car. Hope you sue them properly and then move on and enjoy your passion. You should name n shame them so that other people don’t fall for these kinds of businesses
I am really horrified by this incident and my thoughts are with you. As Manik said, it is time to move on but make the detailers pay for it through their nose…a lesson they will not forget forever.
Enjoy the Jimny and the kind of joy it brings to the driver and let time be the healer in such instances.
I’m truly sorry you are forced to go through this one. It is a frustrating and painful experience.
There’s couple ways you can mitigate it.
Step 1 - get your car and your money back (if they give more, take that too).
Step 2 - Please do post your experiences on all the social media channels, TBHP, YouTube, FB, vent your frustration.
Step 3 (A) - now you can take the legal route and make them pay for it. But you’ll be spending for the legal fees and travelling to the courthouse and hopefully it’ll close soon. Depending on the judge, they will be penalised heavily.
OR
Step 3 (B) - get the parts and panels replaced, repainted and get them to pay for it. It’s not stock but it’ll also teach them a lesson. Even this will involve you staying away from the vehicle and lot of time consuming factor.
OR
Step 3 (C) like Manik said, just forget about it, take your money back and enjoy the car as is. It’s meant to be used, it’s a tool for transport and travel. I know and myself are guilty of treating my car as a member of family. But it is what it is. We trusted the wrong person and we’re paying for it.
Whatever your decision, I truly hope you find peace and happiness soon and let this bitter memory fade away.
