Update on wobble on braking

I have been facing brake wobble issue in my 5 door Jimny since last 6 months. My Jimny has 215/75R15 tyre upgrade.

Issue: When braking from 80-90km/hr, the steering starts to wobble around 65-55km/hr speed. There is no wobble outside this speed zone. Releasing brakes or pushing harder during wobble eliminates the wobble. There is no vibration what so ever in any other driving condition

Got a call from MSIL that parts have arrived at Prem Motors Sector 14 (Nexa Service) and I confirmed 28th September 2024 for the visit.
As per the plan, I reached at 9:30 AM and service senior was assigned to me. I was informed that a set ( 4 ) of King Pins were to be installed under this job. The Jimny was driven as-is to set a baseline of the issue, which was exactly what I had described.

Note: As per service advisor, these were re-engineered King Pins.

Jimny was lifted with wheels removed and then the 4 King Pins were removed.

King Pin from top and bottom side removed:

Each wheel has 2 of these. One above and one below.

All 4 King Pins Removed:

4 New King Pins laid out for installation:

Below installation, they were sufficiently greased and Anabond gasket sealant was used.

Post installation of King Pin, the was noticed that my brake shoes were near En-Of-Life. Hence I asked them to change them as well ( I had to pay for these and the labour associated ).
With new King Pins and Brake pads, we went out for a 30km test drive and the wobble still persisted. However now it was little hard to reproduce and did happen in 80-70km/hr speed range. Also, the vibration was longer in frequency (V----V----V----V) . Earlier, the frequency was higher (V-V-V-V-V).

We then head back to service centre to change the Disc Rotors.

Both front Disc Rotors were replaced with the part shown below:

New Rotors Installed:

Again, we went for a long 30km test drive and this time there was no wobble / vibration.

Went back to service centre, I was billed for Brake pads and its labour. I was out of service centre by 3 PM.

All in all, I think the issue either had to be with the rotors ( the rotors are wrapping due to heat ) or with the combination with the King Pins.

Overall, I am satisfied but my gut feeling says that the wobble will be back in next 10K kms. Lets see.

Thanks a lot for sharing the details. Appreciate your contribution. I am sure it will help all our members to get this issue resolved successfully.

Wonderful. Is it possible that due to warped rotors, the kingpins took the beating and became “loose”?

Unlikely. The KingPins and Rotors are far away in terms of distance and also components linking them.

Please note that as per service advisor, these were re-engineered King Pins

Any details on the “re-engineering”?

Today I got my king pins and rotors replaced.
