Beyond the reasons explained in my post, there are some other things that Maruti should consider.
-
Being a Mass Market player it has a moral obligation to provide value for money cars to Indian Households. Bringing 4x4 and off-roading to that segment of society is the next best things they can do.
-
By pricing it within reach of an average Indian middle-class family they will be able to unleash a big wave of adoption. They can laugh their way to the bank even with low margins but high-volume strategy.
-
A reasonably priced Jimny will give a fillip to many other related businesses like accessories, travel and tourism, off road coaching schools and many other related areas. All this results in a positive cycle where everyone gains.
-
In order to establish the brand and unseat incumbent players the pricing should be spot on. We can soon have a massive following of Jimny loyalists if people are able to acquire it.
-
Apart from just selling the Jimny, MSIL should promote activities around the car’s DNA. Organizing trails and expeditions fire up the imagination of people and converts them into lifelong associations. With a correctly priced car Maruti Suzuki can definitely benefit from this.
-
By projecting it as a lifestyle vehicle and a premium and niche product they will only drive the customers to the competition.
-
At the end of the day the Jimny is a ln evolved Gypsy. I hope they remember this. Story telling takes you only that far and then you need fresh stories. Give the people the opportunity and you will be surprised how many new stories you will get.
